Project New Hope Apartments

San Pedro, California

This was to be the first apartment building in California specifically for persons suffering from advanced stages of AIDS. By the time it was eventually built, it was much simpler, and (happily) there were a number of similar buildings. Originally, as shown here, it was organized around a courtyard over parking. Each individual unit had its own combination washer/dryer, deck, and decent views.

I developed a near-full set of construction documents for the project. Jeffrey Daniels eventually produced a revised, value-engineered set which was completed in about 1998. Still, the eventual result is quite nice. A tiny picture can be seen at
